Where is the secondary fuse box? ›

In most cases, the main fuse box is situated under the hood, near the battery, while secondary panels can be found in the passenger compartment, often hidden behind a removable panel.

Your fuse box will have two sets of fuses. At the bottom will be 15-amp and 20-amp screw-in fuses with glass faces that are exposed and visible. These fuses will service branch light circuits and outlet circuits. At the top will be 30-amp or 40-amp cartridge main fuses for ovens, laundry rooms, or stoves.

Usually, you will find two fuse boxes in the car. One is located under the hood and the other is found in the dashboard or near the steering wheel. The fuse under the hood protects important engine components and accessories like battery, ECU and cooling fan.

On the passenger side, there is also a battery, and the fuse box is located nearby. You will often find tabs on the side of the fuse box cover that need to be pressed in to release them. While most vehicles have the battery in the engine bay, some may not.

Each box has a different purpose. The engine compartment fuse box is made to protect certain engine components including the anti-lock brake pump, engine control unit, and cooling system while the interior fuse box is used to protect cabin area electrical elements.

You must visually inspect the fuse to see if it has blown. Household electrical fuses typically look like a cylinder or plug with a glass window in the middle or on top. In that window, you should see a thin metal strip without any breaks or discoloration.

The instrument cluster fuse manages the dashboard gauge of a vehicle. It uses electricity from the car battery to power various electronic components of the dashboard such as the different warning lights, gauges, and alarm systems. They include but are not limited to the following: Speedometer.

There are two types of fuses that you'll encounter when installing a dashcam: switched fuses and constant fuses. A switched fuse is one that only has power when the ignition is turned on, while a constant fuse always has power.

How do you know which fuse is blown? ›

Remove the fuse from its holder. In some cases you may need a small screwdriver to unscrew the fuse holder cap. Look at the fuse wire. If there is a visible gap in the wire or a dark or metallic smear inside the glass then the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.

Open the fuse box door. Inspect each fuse using a flashlight to find the one that is burned or melted (the working fuses will have a clear glass casing but the blown one will look cloudy or blackened).

The first thing to do is find your main fuse box (these days called a consumer unit), which will be in the same place as your electricity meter. They're often in the main hallway of a house, in a purpose-built cupboard.
