The Granddaddy of Sarasota Flea Markets!

The Granddaddy of Sarasota Flea Markets is known as “The Dome Flea Market” in south Venice, which is south Sarasota County.

Farewell to The Dome!
After 43 years The Dome CLOSED on July 16, 2017 for business reasons. The commercial property is slated to be redeveloped into another commercial business. As a much enjoyed, long time Sarasota Attraction we will keep this page on line as a historic tribute to The Dome. -- Other Sarasota Flea Markets information at the bottom of this page.

It has a little bit of everything. You can spend a fun morning orafternoon browsing through the wares of vendors who are from all walksof life.

A local landmark for over 30 years, you never know what you’ll find at The Dome Flea Market, but there is a wide variety of, well, let’s just put it this way: everything under the Florida sun.

So, what you find may surprise you, or if you’ve been to a lot of Flea Markets, perhaps not.

The Dome Flea Market is spread out over about 3 buildings through winds and turns and rooms off of other rooms. It’s bigger than what it looks like from first glance. You’ll have fun winding your way through the maze of booths and aisles.

Here’s a short list of what you’ll find at the Granddaddy of SarasotaFlea Markets, The Dome Flea Market: hats, straw hats and caps of allkinds, all kinds of jewelry, some handmade, some being created as youwatch.

I’ve also seen guns and swords, golf clubs, golf balls andbags, old and new clothes, new items, second hand items, sunglasses andreading glasses, knick-knacks of every kind, artwork; from paintings tophotography.

Also for sale were all sorts of hand bags, nostalgia items, oldbooks, home décor and there’s even a fresh produce market at theentryway to The Dome Flea Market. And on my last visit there was also aknife sharpener at the entryway with a booth where you could bring yourold knives and have them sharpened.

I’m not so sure if you’llfind anything “rare” here but there was also coin dealer-collector boothas well as booths that sell socks and shoes and new and usedmerchandise of all kinds.

It’s just a real potpourri of eclectic items; fun to browse through.

The couple of friendly vendors that I talked with have been selling their wares at The Dome Flea Market every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for years.

One told me that he makes just “extra money and gasmoney,” so it doesn’t appear that anyone is getting rich off whatthey’re selling, but just looking to make a few extra bucks.

The vendors seem to enjoy it and the ones I talked to stay throughout the whole year, even after the seasonal rush goes away.

Their big time of year, of course, is during what we affectionatelycall “snowbird” season from October through April. That’s when you’llfind it the busiest over the 3 day weekends at the Dome Flea Market.

So,if it’s your kind of thing, it’s worth a drive just to spend an hour ortwo browsing around the granddaddy of Sarasota flea markets,the DomeFlea Market.

Who knows what you’ll find? You may find something that will fill in that corner in your house that has been empty for years because you haven’t been able to find “just the right thing.”

Directions from Sarasota: To find the Dome Flea Market followRt. 41 south into Venice, onto the Venice 41 By-Pass, this will leadback into Rt 41. Turn right at Rt 776, also known as Englewood Road. TheDome Flea Market will be about a mile further on the left side of theroad. Make a left into the parking lot.

The Dome Flea Market is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
