Why You Will love this Recipe

You can cook up some air fryer chicken breasts for the week and use the chicken for Air Fryer Chicken Quesadillas, Summer Cobb Salad, or DIY Weight Watchers Burrito Bowls.

Air fryers do not heat up the whole entire house like an oven does. I rarely turn on my oven anymore to make those 3 items above and the air fryer doesn't heat up your space.

Once you master basic chicken in the air fryer you can make air fryer chicken nuggets, parmesan chicken, or the Best Air Fryer Whole Chicken.

Chicken Breast - make sure the chicken breasts are even in size for proper cooking. Use an oven read thermometer for proper doneness

Seasoning - I have a few ideas on how you can season your chicken breast below but I like to use Dano's seasoning.

Olive oil for brushing on top of the chicken - or olive oil cooking spray

Step 2: Slice your chicken breast in half and season your chicken breast with salt and pepper and then seasoning salt of choice. I like to use Trader Joe's Seasoning salt but again, use whatever you like or have on hand. Brush the chicken with olive oil.

Step 3: Place chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer and set the temperature to 400 degrees. Close the basket and set the timer at 7 minutes. After 7 minutes take the chicken out and flip and cook for another 4 minutes longer. Check for temperature doneness with an instant read thermometer.

How to season chicken breasts?

There are many different ways you can flavor up this chicken. My recipe below calls for seasoning salt of choice and salt and pepper.

Some other seasonings that would be great for chicken breasts are lemon pepper seasoning, Taco Seasoning, Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning, Trader Joe’s All Purpose Seasoning Salt, and Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute.

Seasoning Blend Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika

Chicken marinadeswill also cook in the air fryer. I'd suggest placing a sheet of parchment down before cooking so that none of the marinade drips. -Easy 3 Ingredient Chicken Marinade Recipe

Tips for Air Fryer Chicken Breast

One easy way to transform any chicken breast in the air fryer is to use a chicken brine before air frying the breasts. Find my recipe for Chicken Brine here!Chicken Brine Recipe

Use a meat thermometer to check and see if your chicken breast is properly done inside. Poke the chicken breast with a thermometer. It has to be at a temperature of 165 degrees for it to be done. Some air fryers might require longer cooking times for chicken.

Brushing your chicken with oil or using cooking spray is optional. I think spraying the chicken with oil helps with the skin drying out while cooking.

Chicken breasts arezero points on Weight Watchers if you don't add any type of oil to the chicken when cooking it in your air fryer. Prepare a few chicken breasts for the week to use on salads, pizza, casseroles, and quesadillas, or make DIY burrito bowls.

Chicken Breast Sizes and Cooking Times

Depending on the size of your chicken breast will vary for cooking times. Another good tip for making sure chicken cooks properly is to pound the breasts out so that they are all even in size. Make sure the basket isn't overcrowded with chicken either.

  • Small Breasts (5 to 7 ounces): 7 to 10 minutes
  • Medium Breasts (8 to 10 ounces): 10 to 12 minutes
  • Large Breasts (11 ounces or more): 12 to 16 minutes

FAQs

How long does it take to cook chicken breasts in the air fryer? ›

Roll each oiled chicken breast in the seasoning and put in your air fryer basket. Cook at 180C for 18-20 mins, turning after 10 mins. To check it is cooked, pierce the chicken with a knife at the thickest part to see if the juices run clear. Or insert a temperature thermometer and it should read 70C.

How do you keep chicken breast from drying out in an air fryer? ›

Make smart choices without hours of googling.

The #1 tip for the best chicken breasts in an air fryer is: Don't overcook them! Chicken breasts should be cooked to 160°F, but if you cook them all the way to that temperature in the air fryer, carryover cooking will take them beyond that temp and cause them to dry out.

Should you put raw chicken in an air fryer? ›

Yes, you put raw frozen chicken in the air fryer! You won't be able to brine it first or pound it to an even thickness (so the results are not *as* juicy) but if you forget to thaw your chicken, it's a great option to have on hand.

What is the best temperature to cook chicken in an air fryer? ›

Place the chicken on the air fryer basket / grate in an even layer, leaving a bit of space for air to circulate around. Air fry the chicken at 415 degrees for 10 minutes. If you have larger pieces of chicken, you'll want to go closer to 13 minutes. You're looking for an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Is it better to bake or air fry chicken breast? ›

Which is better between air frying vs. oven baking? Air-frying is a healthier alternative to deep-fried foods, but oven-baking often preserves good nutrients while filtering out the bad ones, making oven-baked foods even healthier than most air-fried foods.

How to cook boneless breast in air fryer? ›

Spray the basket of the air fryer with nonstick spray then add the chicken breasts — they can be touching but not overlapping. Air fry for 13-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees, flipping the chicken breasts halfway through.

What's the best way to cook chicken breast so it doesn't dry out? ›

Her suggestion: Place boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a pan in a single layer, cover with a few inches of liquid (water, broth, etc.), add flavorings (spices, salt, herbs, soy sauce, etc.), then bring the liquid just barely to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat so the liquid simmers.

What is the best way to cook chicken breasts to keep them moist? ›

Getting a good sear through medium high heat, then reducing the heat to LOW and COVERING the chicken while it cooks. The butter, oil, and chicken juices create a super flavorful liquid that acts as a way to steam the chicken at a low temperature, ensuring that it is moist & tender on the inside.

Why isn t my chicken getting crispy in the air fryer? ›

It is important to remember that air fryers function differently than deep fryers. Traditional deep frying methods are open and expel moisture from wet foods as they cook, while air fryers are enclosed appliances, so excess moisture leads to soggy results.

What oil should you not use in an air fryer? ›

What's more: the "frying" is faster! Caution! Forget about butter or delicate cold-pressed oils, which are very likely to burn and smoke the whole kitchen. Everyone knows someone who has already had this misfortune!

Do you have to flip chicken in air fryer? ›

Even if your air fryer has top-notch air circulation from its fan, you need to give most larger pieces of food (such as pork chops, burgers, and chicken cutlets) a turn about halfway through cooking.

Should I use aluminum foil when air frying chicken? ›

Foil is safe to use in an air fryer so long as you follow three basic rules: never let foil touch the heating element; make sure the foil is weighted so it doesn't blow around the basket; and avoid contact with acidic ingredients, which can cause the foil to leach onto your food.

How do you know when Airfryer chicken is done? ›

Another method to understand if the chicken is sufficiently cooked or not is to use an instant-read thermometer to observe the inner heat of the meat cut. If the temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit, then it means the chicken cooked sufficiently.

How long to air fry a chicken breast at 375? ›

While your air fryer is heating to 375 degrees, rub the chicken all over with olive oil and seasonings. If you'd prefer, you can just use a cooking spray instead of olive oil. Place the meat in the air fryer basket, and cook chicken breasts for 15 minutes.

How long does it take to air fry chicken at 350? ›

Place chicken in air fryer basket, standing against sides of basket if necessary. Set to 350°F; cook 15 minutes. Turn chicken; cook 5 to 8 minutes longer or until juice of chicken is clear when center of thickest part is cut (at least 165°F).

What temperature do you cook chicken breasts and for how long? ›
